New Study: EMV Adoption Gaining Traction, Delays Still Persist

  • More businesses are upgrading forecourts to outdoor EMV
  • Who’s adopting? Size matters
  • How to fast-track your upgrade

We have some good news and some bad news on the EMV front.

First, the good news: EMV adoption is increasing, according to a new survey.

The 52% of unprotected businesses in the spring has chipped away to 31%, but that’s where the good stuff ends.

Now, the bad news: More than 40% of stores do not expect to be EMV compliant by the deadline. Even worse, chains with 50 stores or more are the most likely to remain unprotected after April 2021.

So, what’s the hold up now?

Sure, COVID-19 has played a role in the delays, but there’s more to it than that. 30% of respondents cited a lack of software as the primary factor in their EMV delays. A small fraction of the respondents cited cost as a factor for delaying EMV.

Back to some good news, though.
